Pilsen/Arnhem, 24 January 2025 – The Dutch company TenneT plans to construct 400 kilometres of new very high voltage (VHV) lines and modernise 600 kilometres of existing lines over the next ten years. The Czech company Omexom GA Energo will participate in this large-scale project.
Omexom GA Energo, a prominent company specialising in electrical infrastructure design and construction, has signed a significant framework agreement with TenneT, a key transmission system operator in the Netherlands and across Europe. This contract, valued at approximately €1.75 billion, was established among four partners who will collaboratively work on the construction and modernisation of energy infrastructure in the Netherlands.
Omexom GA Energo will be involved in the following activities within the project:
- The construction of 400 km of new overhead HV lines.
- The modernisation of 600 km of existing lines, which will enhance transmission capacity by 30%.
- The introduction of innovative and sustainable technologies, focusing on emission-free construction and minimal environmental impact.
Zdeněk Židek, CEO of Omexom GA Energo, expressed his pride upon signing the contract: “We are honoured to be part of a project that strengthens our position among the leading players in the European energy infrastructure sector. This framework agreement demonstrates our ability to successfully execute technically challenging projects while emphasizing sustainability and innovation. Together with our partners at TenneT, we are contributing to an energy future that is both efficient and environmentally friendly.”
In a recent press release regarding the signing of the framework agreement, TenneT stated: “To achieve a resilient, independent, and sustainable energy supply, significant expansion of the electricity grid is essential. The rapid increase in wind turbines and solar panels, along with the growing demand for electricity driven by a more sustainable industrial sector, businesses, and consumers, necessitates a swift enhancement of the transmission grid. TenneT is dedicated to this goal and is investing over €60 billion in the Dutch high-voltage grid, both onshore and offshore, over the next 10 years.”
A crucial aspect of the agreement is the partners’ commitment to adhere to the Clean and Zero Emission Building Pact. This means that all projects will aim to be completely emission-free and to have minimal environmental impact from the start. The contract can extend up to ten years, providing the partners with the opportunity to invest in innovative, emission-free technologies.
“We face a major challenge in transitioning to a sustainable high-voltage grid. By working closely with our partners over the long term, we are building a strong and reliable high-voltage network. This collaboration not only enhances safety but also fosters innovation and improves efficiency throughout the implementation process,” says Maarten Abbenhuis, Chief Operating Officer at TenneT.
