During this year’s September floods, the power of water was once again on display as it swept through the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc regions. Our company, OMEXOM GA Energo, was called by ČEZ Distribuce to repair the damage caused by the floods near Krnov.
The high water level damaged mast No. 17 of the 110 kV line V685/686. If not addressed immediately, there was a risk of further damage. The support point No. 17 was precariously positioned in the Opava River, and if it had collapsed, it could have led to the failure of additional masts and jeopardized the nearby 22 kV line.
“Standard procedures for dismantling the mast were not feasible, so we had to bring in special equipment to safely lower the mast to the ground,” explains Marek Dobrý, the director of the HV division. “Fortunately, the worst-case scenarios regarding the collapse of surrounding masts did not materialize, and we were able to begin the restoration of the entire damaged section, starting from mast No. 15, which had a damaged concrete base, up to No. 19.”
Construction and installation work is currently being completed so that the line can be put back into operation as soon as possible.
