In the Beskydy region, the V403/803 line is currently undergoing reconstruction. This project is not only technically demanding, but also poses significant geographical challenges. The third stage of the construction is particularly exceptional due to its location in hard-to-reach places, including ski slopes.

“The third stage, which we are involved in, takes place in rather extreme conditions. Some of the masts are being erected on slopes and in places that are very difficult to access. It was therefore necessary to build a large number of access roads and use special methods,” says Marek Dobrý, Director of the HV division of OMEXOM GA Energo.

Given the steep slopes and the risk of landslides, cooperation with mining experts was crucial. “We needed to know not only the geology of the place but also how to secure the sites against possible landslides and other potential pitfalls in such difficult terrain,” adds Dobrý.

The owner of the line is ČEPS and it is one of the oldest lines which has often been faulty, leading to the need for reconstruction. The V403/803 construction project involves replacing the original 1959 line with a new double 400 kV line. This includes the installation of new Danube and Soudek type mast structures, as well as new phase conductors and ground wires.

The construction started in May 2023 and is scheduled for completion by September 2024. The new line’s route intersects various underground, overhead, and underground networks, necessitating numerous safety measures.

Section 3 spans from masts 160 to SS Nošovice and is 26.62 km long. The project includes dismounting of existing masts and installation of 88 new ones, along with fitting phase conductors, ground wires, and insulator chains. Drones were used to install pilot ropes in the most hard-to-reach or protected areas.

This project is not only a technical challenge but also a significant step toward increasing the reliability of the energy infrastructure in the Beskydy region.
